A Little Bit About Me and You - A Blog Challenge!

So, a fellow blogger friend and  fellow expat over at From One Country to Another offered up what I thought was a good idea to help get to know more about each other.  She came up with the list of questions and challenged us to answer and share.  So, here's mine:

1.  How long have you been with your husband?

Blue and I have been together for about 5 year.  Married for about 2 1/2 years.  I don't remember the exact date we started dating.  Sometime in the Spring of 2007.  It hurts my brain to think about exact dates.

2.  Can you remember one of the funny miscommunication because of language barriers?

Hahaha, now looking back at the beginning of our relationship, I am positive Blue probably did NOT understand A LOT more than he led me to believe.  Although I have always considered his English to be good, he has advanced so much more in the past 3 years, and now I consider him to be about as fluent as one could be.  And I knew practically NO Spanish when I met him....so we have always communicated in English.  One that  stands out in my mind is a time when Elena was frustrated because the batteries in one of her toys kept running out, and she held up her toy and said ''These batteries stink!'', meaning that they were crappy cause they only lasted a few days.  Blue however was lost in translation, and proceeded to walk over to the toy, pick it up, take the batteries out, and hold them up to his nose to smell them, lol.  We all had a good laugh at that one!

3.  What state and city have you relocated to?

Ciudad de Mexico, Estado de Mexico.

4.  Do you and your hubby have children?  And if so how old?

One daughter, Elena Sarah Maria Benitez, 4 years old.

5.  What is one thing your blogger friends don't know about you?

Hmmmm, probably a lot.  A lot of people don't know that I have a degree in Social Work, and spent time during internships in addictions counseling.  I wanted to go into the field of Social Work because of my own personal struggles during my teenage years and I was grateful for the help I received from others in the field.  I always used to think if I could help save just one persons life, then that was worth it!  But, my life has taken another path and I am obviously not practicing in my field now.

6.  What are some of your favorite hobbies or pastimes?

I love to read, bake, play Scrabble, and eat.

7.  Have you learned something new about yourself during this whole process that has changed all of our lives?

Oh boy YES!  I  learned so much, that is a whole other blog topic.  But to keep it short and simple, I found God here in Mexico, and I do not mean I joined a church.  I found peace, love, happiness, patience, acceptance, TRUTH, hope, simplicity, humbleness, and faith.  I am a different person than I was 4 years ago, and it is one of the greatest blessing in my life so far.  I will forever love Mexico for this and be thankful for God placing me here.

8.  Something that you love about Mexico and something you can't stand or miss living without?

What I love about Mexico is the culture, the food, the simplicity of life, people here have next to nothing and don't seem to mind.   I love the colors and more specifically I love the MOLE, lol.  I can't stand not having a shower for days sometimes, because we are out of water.  And I miss lots of things from family to tons of American snacks and foods.

9.  Did you know your in-laws before moving, and has it been a big adjustment being closer to them?

No I did not know them, and I hadn't even talked to them on the phone ever.  I did make an photo album for them after Elena was born, and sent it to them with a letter.  In my case, I moved in with them and have been living with them ever since, so, physically speaking now we are reallly close!  It hasn't been a major adjustment.  Thank God, we all seem to really click and get along!  I can't complain, they are good to me, and we don't overly annoy each other....it's a pretty healthy and normal relationship.  They treat me like a real daughter, and I love them like my own family now :)

10.  If you were going back to the states next week, where is the first place you would go, after seeing your family, of course?

I would eat my little heart out!  I would eat my way through my list of favorite restaurants.  And I would go for a dip in the pool :)

11.  How did you stumble across the blogging community?

All my props go to Krystal from A Year in the Life of Krystal, she's pretty darn awesome!
